A New Season of Motherhood: Letting Go
- Grace for the Journey

Watching my teen grow into a young adult is both beautiful and bittersweet. One moment
I am protecting her from the world, and the next I'm learning how to loosen my grip and
trusting what we've poured into her. As a mother, there’s a quiet ache in realizing she no
longer needs us in the same ways—but there’s also a deep, steady pride as I watch her grow
into the young lady God created her to be.
Can you relate? Do you have those same mixed feelings as your teen daughter or son enters adulthood. Still young and naive but excited to become independent. This season can be tough for parents, especially for your mama's heart. It's about relinquishing control while never releasing
love. It’s trusting that the values, faith, wisdom, and guidance you’ve planted will take root. It’s believing that even when you’re not there to shield them, they carry the tools they need to
make good decisions and to thrive.
There’s joy here, too—joy in discovering a new kind of relationship. A growing friendship.
Honest conversations. Shared laughter. Moments where you step back and simply watch God move in their life, knowing He is at work in ways you cannot always see. You remain a safe place. When mistakes are made, you’re there—not to rescue, but to listen. To offer advice
when it’s welcomed. To lift them up with love and remind them who they are. And sometimes,
the hardest part of motherhood is knowing when to step back and allow life’s lessons to do
their work.
This new season calls for faith—faith in your child, faith in yourself, and faith in God’s plan.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to
harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). And so you breathe, you
trust, and you walk forward together—side by side—grateful to God for who they are
becoming.
